Prophet 21 Nominal (General) Ledger Functionality

View Financial Information Instantly and in Real-Time

Prophet 21's Nominal (General) Ledger displays account numbers and names on all screens, eliminating the need to flip back and forth between windows. With the ability to drill down into multiple tabs, employees who have access to the Nominal Ledger save time by instantly viewing the information they need. The Nominal Ledger allows you to limit employees' access to financial data, thus ensuring the security of your confidential financial information.

Capabilities
  • Eliminate labourious day-, month-, and year-end closing processes
  • Drill down from period balance all the way to a specific transaction posting
Benefits
  • Provide detail into each Nominal (General) Ledger posting
  • Create financial reports at any time without having to wait until month-end
  • Improve the flow of information to executives
  • Reduce costs with quick access of information to authorised employees

Initial drill downs into accounts allow you to view the transaction detail while displaying the current period and year activity with balances. Employees can quickly locate transactions from a range of accounts inside a selected period and year. Columns can be sorted by clicking on the column title, and with the audit trail functionality, you have the ability to determine how a record was changed, who changed it, and when.

You may also execute the find functionality to search for specific information. Instant access to account information gives you increased efficiency and helps you answer accountants, auditors and executives questions quickly and easily.

Up-to-the Minute Financial Reports and Maintenance

The real-time Nominal (General) Ledger replaces labourious day-, month-, and year-end closing processes with the click of a button. With Prophet 21's general ledger you can create repetitive journal entries and journal entry templates to expedite lengthy recurring entries. Even after you have closed a period, with the proper user permissions, you may reopen the period to make changes. When you close the fiscal year, all balances for revenue and expense accounts are closed and posted to a retained earnings account. Best of all, your accountant can close your fiscal year while your employees still conduct business within Prophet 21.

Drill-down and inquiry capabilities allow you to access historical information for faster auditing. You can generate either a detailed or summary financial report on all account activities. The report provides a breakdown of all transactions for a particular time period and shows a closing balance.

The Nominal (General) Ledger's masking feature allows you to determine what segments of information you want to see when calling up data. When running financial statements, reports, or inquiries for auditing, the masking feature serves as a filter and allows you to search or call up detailed specific information. Simply set up your parameters when either creating a new general ledger account or report, and decide what information you don't want to see by masking it. Additionally, you can view a range of accounts within a specified period of time for all branches.

You can also use reports to summarise account information by detail, journal total, or other information while viewing which journal the transaction was saved to and the date it was posted. All financial reports contain the beginning balance, transaction amount, journal totals and ending balance, as well as totals for all accounts in the Nominal (General) Ledger.

Prophet 21's Nominal (General) Ledger allows you to view financial data from different fiscal years in specific journals for a complete history of financial information. The ability to access all this information at any time eliminates the need to print the Nominal Ledger report at the end of the month.
